Comparative study of laparoscopic versus open surgery in cases of liver hydatid cysts

Background: Hydatidosis is a zoonotic infection, and treatment mandatory to avoid complications. The infection can be asymptomatic or severe, causing extensive organ damage even death of the patient. Aims Objectives: main aim this study find out merits demerits laparoscopy over that open surgery in hydatid cysts liver. Materials Methods: This prospective observational was done on 50 patients who had liver disease admitted Department Surgery, Shyam Shah Medical College Rewa (M.P.). Patients were divided into two groups consisting 25 cases each. Group A: managed by laparoscopic B: surgery. Results: mean operative time A 99.6 min, while B, it 140.4 min. mobilized early resumed duty very fast then B. duration stay hospital 8.64 days (range: 4–20 days) 11.84 4–12 Wound seen 9 B 0% A. General complication rate 32% 8% No recurrence noticed either group during follow-up. Conclusion: Overall management cyst cost-effective terms mobilization, discharge, resumption work along with cosmetic benefit.
